As a Connecticut native, Attorney Pond began practice as a civil litigator after a judicial clerkship at the Connecticut Appellate Court.  She has a diverse practice with an emphasis on general liability defense, fire science litigation, product liability, and insurance coverage.

Product & General Liability:

Attorney Pond represents insurance companies, their policyholders, and self-insured entities in defense of product and general liability claims involving personal injuries and wrongful death.

She has been involved in the following product liability claims:

  • Defective design and manufacture of lighting fixtures due to sharp edges resulting in lacerations
  • Negligent design, assembly and installation of wooden cabinetry resulting in head and neck injuries
  • Defective design and manufacture of lighting fixture component causing arcing and subsequent fire damage to fixtures and large commercial complexes
  • Defective design and manufacture of beverage cups causing burning and trauma
  • Negligent rental of power tool resulting in partial amputation
  • Negligent maintenance of automatic sliding doors; and
  • Numerous premises liability actions including: negligent property maintenance, slip and falls, and dog bites

Small and Catastrophic Fire Losses:

Her practice focuses on litigation of small and catastrophic fire losses involving product manufacturers, sellers and installers.  She has represented clients nationwide in state and federal courts in cases involving household appliances, residential furnaces, portable heating equipment, and negligent servicing and installation of heating and electrical systems.  

She has handled fire cases involving allegations of:

  • Negligent installation, maintenance and service of residential gas furnaces and boilers
  • Negligent installation and wiring of electrical components and heat trace cable at commercial property
  • Failure to install ground fault circuit interruption circuit breakers, wiring and electrical components
  • Defective design of an electric air-freshener causing residential fire
  • Defective design of electric heaters causing fires at commercial and residential properties
  • Spontaneous combustion of construction materials due to contractor’s negligence
  • Failure to provide smoke detectors and alternate means of egress; and
  • Negligent blockage and interference with fire department cistern

Insurance Coverage:

In the area of insurance coverage, Attorney Pond counsels clients in analyzing insurance claims and policies and developing strategic approaches to assessing covered liabilities and losses.

Her insurance coverage practice includes analysis of routine coverage matters in personal casualty and commercial lines, as well as catastrophic water and fire losses; liability and first party coverage suits; property; and declaratory judgment litigation and bad faith litigation.

Property Matters:

Attorney Pond also has an interest and growing practice in matters related to real property. She has successfully resolved disputes between landlords and tenants and litigated matters involving fraud and negligence in the sale of real property, including mold, lead paint, drainage, and water damage issues.
